Fundraising at Youthreach Ballincollig

February 16, 2015

Urla Coomey presented €140 to Joanna Crummie, secretary of Penny Dinners, Cork, on behalf of Ballincollig Youthreach. Last summer Urla did work experience at Penny Dinners and found it very rewarding. Urla is also part of a terrific team of fundraisers applying their acquired FETAC Teamworking skills.
Learners and staff were honoured to raise essential euro for this outstanding service in Cork city. Joanna spoke to all at Ballincollig about the importance of donations and fundraising for Penny Dinners. She stated that Cork Penny Dinners was founded during famine times as a soup kitchen. It is currently serving well over 1000 meals per week, compared to 150 a week two years ago. Its aim is a simple one – to give everyone who calls to the centre a hot nourishing midday meal. Joanna concluded ‘there’s an open door and a warm welcome and we never judge – we serve’.
